HÀ NỘI — The Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the CropLife Việt Nam Association have released a series of videos giving instructions on how to use pesticides safely, efficiently and responsibly.

Huỳnh Tấn Đạt, Deputy Director of the Department of Plant Protection, said that the videos introduced a summary of knowledge on using pesticides following widely recognised rules of safe and effective use of pesticides.

The videos aim to improve production operation, quality assurance of harvested products, and expand Vietnamese farming markets.

The production and release of these videos aimed to expand and diversify information communication channels, helping farmers access documents on instructions and training on the use of pesticides quickly, intuitively, conveniently and easy to understand.

The videos are also a reference resource to help technicians and dealers access and then guide farmers so that they can select, decide and use pesticides properly and responsibly towards forming sustainable farming practices.

The series of videos consist of 15 episodes, each covering different aspects of responsible pesticide use.

The instructions include the following stages: general principles in plant protection and quarantine activities; rights and obligations of pesticide users; guiding principles; golden rules in pesticide use; practices for integrated pest management and resistance management; the collection and handling of packages and use of protective equipment; and information on prohibited acts and penalties for improper use.

Each video is 3 minutes long. The idea of presenting video content in animations helps to effectively illustrate instructional information, especially procedures when using pesticides.

The choice of this video format also helps editing and archiving to be deployed flexibly and efficiently.

The Plant Protection Department, Vietnam CropLife Association wish to spread information and knowledge related to pesticides to as many people as possible. Thereby encouraging farmers to select, use, and dispose of pesticides safely, effectively and responsibly to ensure food safety while protecting the environment and biodiversity.

The videos will be posted on the websites of the Plant Protection Department and CropLife and be broadcast on VTC16.

The Plant Protection Department and CropLife also plan to collaborate to edit and produce more videos on the management and use of pesticides, such as specific instructions for each crop, resistance management, and Integrated Pests Management.

Đặng Văn Bảo, President of CropLife Việt Nam, said they would continue to digitise other content related to pesticide use.
