VN beat Singapore, take Sudirman Cup’s Group 2

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam defeated Singapore to win gold in Group 2 of the Sudirman Cup, also known as the World Badminton Team Championships, yesterday in Australia.

After winning Group 2A, Việt Nam beat Singapore, winner of Group 2B, 3-1 at the Gold Coast’s Carrara Sports & Leisure Centre .

The Vietnamese players won in the men’s and women’s singles matches, represented by husband and wife Nguyễn Tiến Minh and Vũ Thị Trang.

Their teammates triumphed in the mixed doubles, when Đỗ Tuấn Đức and Phạm Như Thảo beat Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Wong Jia Ying Crystal 21-18, 23-21.

Earlier, Việt Nam won all three matches in Group 2A, beating New Zealand, Canada and Scotland.

Việt Nam will advance to the Group 1 next year. — VNS
