In the presence of the national leading grandmaster Lê Quang Liêm, Việt Nam easily defeated Oman, Iran, Lebanon and the hosts in the group round.

Their only loss was to India, who played China in the semi-finals.

Việt Nam showed their strength by beating Iran again in the knockout round and met world champion China in the final match.

The last game saw Liêm losing to Bu Xiangzhi, while Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn drew Wang Yue, Nguyễn Minh Huy tied with Zhou Jianchao and 14-year-old Nguyễn Anh Khôi was beaten by Wei Yi.

On the women’s side, the Vietnamese squad ranked sixth in the qualification round and failed to make the semi-finals.

The tournament will continue with the blitz chess event.
