Quảng Bình prosecutes five people in deforestation case

QUẢNG BÌNH — Police in Quảng Bình Province have launched criminal proceedings against five people suspected of involvement in a deforestation case discovered in March in Quảng Ninh District.

They are Dương Trọng Hà, Nguyễn Đức Cảnh, Hồ Văn Vương, Hồ Văn Hinh and Hồ Văn Thi. All reside in Trường Sơn Commune.

They were charged with violating regulations on exploitation and protection of forests and forest products.

Police detained Dương Trọng Hà and Nguyễn Đức Cảnh to serve the investigation, while the three others have been released on bail and placed under house arrest, vietnamplus.vn reported.

Earlier on March 13, forest rangers in Quảng Ninh District discovered serious deforestation at zone 329 in Trường Sơn Commune.

About 45 trees measuring between 40 and 120cm in diameter were illegally cut down. The rangers also found previously felled trees in the forest.

The total volume of felled trees is estimated at 98.3cu.m, worth more than VNĐ1.6 billion (US$69,500). — VNS
