HÀ NỘI — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Phạm Bình Minh on Friday chaired a meeting to review the preparations for the much anticipated DPRK-USA Summit in Hà Nội, which is slated for next Wednesday and Thursday.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Government Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Defence, Hà Nội authorities and other relevant agencies.
Deputy PM Minh confirmed that the establishment of security, facilities and logistics, as well as the media centre, to serve the meeting has been implemented promptly with the close coordination of relevant ministries and sectors.
He hailed efforts of ministries, sectors and agencies in the work, asking them to continue strictly realising the directions by Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc during the meeting on Tuesday.
The Deputy PM affirmed that the second DPRK-USA summit to be held in Việt Nam would be among the most significant events of the country in 2019, showing that Việt Nam is a reliable friend and partner of the international community, and reflecting the active and responsible contributions of Việt Nam to international and global issues.
The event would be a chance to introduce to international friends the image of the Vietnamese nation and people as well as Hà Nội as a city of peace and a favourable destination for investment, trade and tourism with diverse culture and strong Vietnamese identity, he added.
Noting that there are only a few days until the summit, he asked agencies to promptly complete the preparations with a focus on security and safety, ensuring utmost convenience for the meeting.
The Deputy PM also underlined the need to create optimal conditions for foreign reporters to cover the event and related activities in Việt Nam.

The Presidential Office of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on Thursday convened a meeting of the National Security Council’s standing committee to intensify understanding with related nations to help organise the upcoming DPRK-USA Summit successfully.

Under the chair of Chung Eui-yong, top national security advisor for President Moon Jae-in, participants also discussed other issues such as the formation of an inter-Korean athletic delegation to attend the Tokyo Olympics 2020, and the two countries’ co-hosting of the 2032 Summer Olympics.
