LIMA — President Trần Đại Quang highlighted the comprehensive partnership between Việt Nam and the US while addressing a workshop at the US–APEC Business Coalition in Lima, Peru, on November 18, during the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) Forum from November 17-20.

Economics, trade and investment co-operation had become a foundation to propel bilateral relations forward, he said, noting that two-way trade had increased by 20 per cent over the past four years to reach US$45 billion at present, with the US a leading trade partner and seventh biggest investor in Việt Nam.

Quang recalled that during US President Barack Obama’s visit to Việt Nam in May, Vietnamese and US leaders recognised the remarkable contributions of the US business community to developing the two nation’s partnership.

The two sides agreed that trade and investment promotion was important for mutual benefits as well as for peace and stability, he added.

The President informed US businesses about the socio-economic situation in Việt Nam, and reaffirmed the Vietnamese State’s policy of accelerating the renewal process to obtain rapid and sustainable development.

Việt Nam was improving its legal framework to create a stable and healthy business environment, as well as bettering infrastructure, attracting foreign investment and protecting the environment, he said, reiterating the country’s policy of protecting the rights and interests of overseas investors.

He also informed the businesses that Việt Nam is making preparations to host the 2017 APEC Year, with the central city of Đà Nẵng the main venue. — VNS
