HCM CITY — The HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera will stage the opera The Magic Flute in German over the first weekend of May at the Opera House in HCM City.

The masterpiece with music composed by Mozart and lyrics by poet Emanuel Schikaneder will be performed under the baton of Vietnamese conductor Trần Nhật Minh and German opera director David Hermann.

HBSO has also worked with vocal master Askan Siegfried Geisler and language coaches Cornelia Schwind and Đoàn Hải Vũ.

It premiered in late 2013 with the support of Norway’s Transposition Programme and has since 2014 been directed by French-German director David Hermann.

“This year … the opera will be more perfect with all lyrics in its original language of German,” an HBSO release said.

Hermann studied at Hanns Eisler music school in Berlin. He won first prize at an international contest in stage direction and arrangement in Austria and has worked with many theatres across Germany.

Minh, deputy director of HBSO, studied at the Magnitogorsk State Conservatory and Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Russia. He has performed with symphony orchestras and choruses in Russia, France, and Italy.
