QUẢNG NAM – The central Quảng Nam Province’s police have shut down the biggest-ever explosive material smuggling ring, seizing 2,964kg of explosives, 10,000 electric detonators and 1,500 metres of electric wire.
At a press conference this morning, Colonel Nguyễn Viết Lợi, director of Quảng Nam Province Police said on Monday the force had begun the investigation in early 2016.
Last Friday evening, Quảng Nam police caught two people attempting to trade 384kg of explosives at Đức Uyên Ltd. Co located in Hiệp Đức District’s Sông Trà Commune.
The two smugglers were named as Phạm Phong, 64, director of Đà Nẵng City-based Sơn Hà Ltd. Co and Nguyễn Thị Thu, 47, living in Quảng Nam Province’s Thăng Bình District.
After further investigation, police arrested three others suspected of involvement in the ring in Quảng Nam Province, seizing a large amount of explosive materials.
The three others accused were Nguyễn Hữu Hải, 49; Nguyễn Văn Khứ, 45; and Đoàn Thị Bích Thủy, 43; all living at Quảng Nam Province.
Police are preparing a case to prosecute the suspects for the illegal sale of explosives.—VNS
