HÀ NỘI — A total of 16 exemplary collectives and individuals who have made significant contributions to society have been honoured at the 18th edition of “Việt Nam Glory” Programme 2023 organised by the Việt Nam General Confederation of Labour on Sunday.

The event is held aiming to commemorate the 75th anniversary of President Hồ Chí Minh’s Call for Patriotic Emulation (June 11, 1948 - June 11, 2023) and to celebrate all levels of Congresses of Trade Union and the Congress of the Việt Nam Trade Union.

Following the themes "Việt Nam's Aspiration" in 2021 and "Việt Nam’s Resilience" in 2022, the "Việt Nam Glory" Programme for 2023 has chosen the theme "Việt Nam's Determination" to award and inspire the strength and spirit of people who overcome all hardships and their desire to contribute.

The 16 collectives and individuals honoured have continuously demonstrated their qualities, wide-ranging influence, dedication to serving the people and society and helping promote the patriotic emulation movements for the development and prosperity of the country.

Opening the speech, Chairman of Việt Nam General Confederation of Labour Nguyễn Đình Khang said: “Việt Nam Glory programme is a significant political and social event that aimed at honouring organisations and individuals who have outstanding achievements in the patriotic emulation movement, as well as in the construction and defence of the Fatherland."

The event has become a prestigious event in society, attracting the attention of the entire population and leaving positive and beautiful imprints on society.

Through its 17 editions, a total of 258 collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in various areas of life have been selected and honoured.

The programme has received numerous nominations from ministries, departments, localities, media agencies, and the press. Based on the criteria, standards, actual results, and achievements of collectives and individuals, the programme has made fair, objective and rigorous selections.

This year, it has chosen and honoured five collectives and 11 outstanding individuals who exemplify the will, aspiration, determination, and drive to unleash their internal strength and self-reliance, stand firm in the face of common challenges, and strive for progress, inspiring the community.

They come from different professions, fields and positions, but they all share a common characteristic – the will to rise above, overcome all difficulties and challenges, and serve the country and the people.

This determination is one of the sources of strength for the Vietnamese people, which has been forged throughout more than 4,000 years of history.

Indeed, the honoured collectives and individuals in the programme represent the most vivid, genuine, and relatable embodiments that inspire all of us to continue striving, to compete even more fiercely, for a prosperous people, a strong nation, and a democratic, just, and civilised society.

"I hope that the exemplary figures honoured today, as well as those in the past, will continue to fulfil their role as pioneers and continue to shine in society, becoming exemplary nuclei of the patriotic emulation movement," said Khang.

Huỳnh Như, the Captain of the Vietnamese Women's National Football Team, said that it was a long journey for her team to achieve this honour.

Fortunately, the team has received love and appropriate investment from the Government, the General Department of Physical Education and Sports, the Vietnam Football Federation, and especially the love of the adoring fans.

She said: "Qualifying for the FIFA Women's World Cup is the dream of the entire team and Vietnamese football fans. The competitors of the Vietnamese Women's National Football Team in this tournament are very strong, but we always maintain the belief of never giving up.

“This is also an opportunity to promote the beautiful image of Việt Nam to the international community. We promise to make constant efforts to live up to the spirit of Vietnamese women and the love of our fans," she said.

Another individual honoured, Associate professor PhD Hồ Thị Thanh Vân, Head of the Department of Science, Technology, and Foreign Relations at Hồ Chí Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment, said that the research conducted by scientists at the University is carried out in the context of Việt Nam and countries around the world facing the depletion of fossil resources such as coal, oil, and gas, as well as global warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions from the use of these fossil fuels.

"These fuel and green-hydrogen-energy solutions that I have developed aim for high durability and low cost, so that we can contribute to the process of Viet Nam's green energy transition specifically, and the world's access to this energy source in general in the future," said Vân. — VNS
