HÀ NỘI — Chinese Ambassador to Việt Nam, Hong Xiaoyong, has been awarded the insignia “For Peace and Friendship among Nations”, the most notable reward of the Việt Nam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), for his contributions to the two countries’ relations.

Speaking at the event last Friday, VUFO Vice Chairman, Đôn Tuấn Phong, thanked the ambassador and his embassy for supporting activities of the VUFO and the Việt Nam-China Friendship Association.

Hong’s assistance had helped promote the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and their people, he affirmed.

Expressing his honour to receive such a noble reward, Hong said that his nearly four-year tenure in Việt Nam was an important period in his diplomatic career, helping him to understand more about the bilateral relations.

As the two countries enter a new development phase, they should step up people-to-people exchange activities, he suggested.

He confirmed that in any position, he would work to foster friendship and co-operation between the Chinese and Vietnamese people. — VNS
