HCM CITY — The HCM City National University and Laos National University on Friday held a workshop on preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of Việt Nam and Laos, attracting academics from 20 universities and institutions in the two countries.

About 73 research papers were submitted at the workshop which focused on cultural values, solutions for cultural development, and educational co-operation between the two countries.

The workshop stressed the importance of cultural values becoming the foundation of sustainable development between Việt Nam and Laos, organisers said.

Việt Nam and Laos have together achieved multiple achievements on economic, political, cultural, and social sectors.

However, challenges from integration and market economy made it difficult for the two countries to preserve their distinctive cultural values.

It is important for Việt Nam and Laos to foster collaborations to tackle the matter, given that each country has a rich history, said Dr Dexanourath Seneduangdeth from Laos.

Huỳnh Thành Đạt, director of the HCM City National University, said that preferential policies adjusted to the growth rate of the two countries should be developed.

Traditional and modern values should be in harmony as well, he added. — VNS
