HÀ NỘI — Top Vietnamese artistic gymnastics athlete Lê Thanh Tùng won a silver medal at World Challenge Cup 2018, which concluded on Monday in Hungary.

Tùng started smoothly with skillful technique and gentle moves to finish perfectly in the final round of his favourite vault event.

His performance earned him a score of 14.750 points, following gold medalist Asato Keisuke from Japan with 14.900 points.

Fellow vaulter young Nguyễn Tuấn Đạt ranked fourth, following bronze medalist Verniaiev Oleg from Ukraine.

Heach coach of artistic gymnastics team Trương Minh Sang said this year’s cup includes many strong participants, so the competition is intense.

“The outcome Tùng got at Challenge Cup made me feel sad for him, as he passed even the score of the gold medalist at Asiad (14.620). He deserved to win, but lost that chance in Asiad.

Yet, that’s the way sports is and we have no better solution than keep practising,” said Sang. — VNS
