HÀ NỘI — The National Traffic Safety Committee will send four inspection teams to check traffic safety across the country this month, said Trương Hòa Bình, standing deputy prime minister and committee chairman.

Bình disclosed the plan at a conference held to review traffic safety in May and to draw up an agenda for June.

Bình has asked the transport ministry to implement stronger regulations while issuing driving licences, as well as conduct inspections on several transport departments and transport enterprises.

He has also asked the General Directorate for Roads of Việt Nam to join hands with the Traffic Police Department to improve drivers’ training, focusing on training centres that have a large number of drivers violating traffic rules. Those violating laws will be fined and may get penal punishment.

The ministry will co-ordinate with the Hà Nội People’s Committee to manage coaches in the capital and prevent the operation of illegal coaches and terminals.

Transport enterprises must conduct health check-ups for their drivers and sack those who test positive for drugs, the minister said. — VNS
