NINH BÌNH – Outstanding students and athletes of the northern province of Ninh Bình were honoured by the Đinh Bộ Lĩnh Study and Talent Encouragement Fund on Sunday.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tống Quang Thìn commended the 199 students and athletes who made remarkable achievements in studying, scientific research and sports at the gathering. The presentation was attended by President Trần Đại Quang.
Many of the students won prizes at national and international contests or were accepted to universities with good marks, while others won medals at regional and international junior sports competitions, said Thìn who is also the Managing Director of the Fund.
More than VNĐ726 million (US$32,500) was presented to award winners at the ceremony.
The Fund was set up in March 2012. It has granted scholarships and awards to more than 1,400 students so far.

The Fund was named after Đinh Bộ Lĩnh, the national hero who defeated 12 warlords to unite the country in the 10th century and declared himself King Đinh Tiên Hoàng. He chose Hoa Lư in Ninh Bình Province as the capital and named his kingdom Đại Cổ Việt (Great Việt). — VNS
