HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has called on the South Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) to enhance training co-operation with Việt Nam and help the Southeast Asian country improve its police force’s professional capacity.

He made the appeal at a reception for Chief of the KNPA Lee Chul-sung in Hà Nội on Thursday, saying the Republic of Korea (RoK) has made many achievements in criminal science and policing.

The PM welcomed the guest to Việt Nam on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Việt Nam-RoK diplomatic ties.

He affirmed the strong support of the Vietnamese Government for the enhancement of bilateral co-operative relations in crime prevention to ensure national security and social order in both countries.

The PM underlined the importance of increasing co-operation and experience sharing between police agencies, especially as Việt Nam makes all-out efforts to ensure absolute safety for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017 in November.

The two sides need to actively exchange information in the field and expand co-operation in crime prevention, especially non-traditional and cross-border crime, he said.

He expressed his belief that the visit to Việt Nam by the KNPA Chief will open a new chapter of collaboration between Vietnamese and South Korean police forces.

Lee Chul-sung said he was glad to work with the Ministry of Public Security of Việt Nam, during which the two sides agreed on a number of important initiatives, especially combating hi-tech crime and ensuring cyber security.

They also agreed to boost co-operation in training in the coming time, he said, adding that the KNPA will continue co-ordinating with the Vietnamese ministry to exchange information and experience in preventing all kinds of crime, especially cyber crime and terrorism. — VNS
