HÀ NỘI — Twelve award-winning Oscar nominated cartoons from France will be presented to the public at the first ever Panam Anim Film Festival in Việt Nam, which opens this week.

The screenings, taking place in Việt Nam until October 9, will present 12 films selected from editions of the Panam Anim Festival through the years. The event is organised by L’Espace, the French Institute in Việt Nam in collaboration with Bonjour Saigon Post Production House.

They include Sweet Cocoon, Siroco, Catch-it and the Short Story of a Fox and Mouse, as well as Garden Party, Crabe Phare and Oktapodi.

At the screenings, the audience will have the opportunity to meet and discuss related subjects with French and Vietnamese experts in animated film and 3D effects.

With more than 80 schools specialising in training techniques to produce animated films, France ranks first in Europe and third in the world in terms of making animated films.

The Panam Animation Film Festival was established in 2011 in Paris by French film producer Pascal Chinarro. It serves as a platform for students majoring in cinema in France and several other countries. The festival is being held annually in Paris since 2011 and was later expanded to Shanghai (since 2013) and Bangkok (since 2016).

The high-quality applications received each year have made Panam Anim one of the most prestigious film competitions in France. Many award-winning works at Panan Anim have appeared on the Oscars’ nominations list and at other reputable animation film awards worldwide.

The films will be screened at l’Espace, the French Cultural Centre, on Monday, October 9, from 6.30pm, and in HCM City on October 7 from 3pm, following the first screening this Wednesday. Free tickets can be collected at l’Espace, situated on 24 Tràng Tiền Street in Hà Nội. — VNS
