HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has called on all Vietnamese compatriots overseas to strictly comply with rules and regulations set by the countries where they live.

In a letter sent to Vietnamese community abroad released on Saturday, PM Phúc called on people to raise responsibility, uphold the spirit of protecting oneself, family and society, strictly comply with pandemic prevention and control measures and regulations of host countries, especially social distancing, and uphold travel restrictions to limit the spread of COVID-19.

“The fight against the COVID-19 pandemic still has a lot of hardships and difficulties ahead, requiring more effort from all of us, including the overseas Vietnamese community,” he wrote.

“With positive results in the field of pandemic prevention and control, together with the unanimity of our compatriots, soldiers nationwide and our compatriots abroad, we will certainly win the fight.”

Talking about the Party and the Government’s drastic and synchronous directions in many early prevention solutions which have been applied at higher level than World Health Organisation recommendations, PM Phúc said Việt Nam has been taking control of the situation, achieving positive initial results with 50 per cent of the infected people making a full recovery and zero deaths.

He said such results were thanks to the participation of the entire political system from the central to local levels, the tireless efforts of medical staff, officials and soldiers of the armed forces and all others working in different sectors and organisations including those in foreign affairs, information and communications.

He also said the solidarity, unanimous actions of the whole nation, including the most important contribution and support of the Vietnamese community abroad, played an important role in contributing to these achievements.

On behalf of the Party and the State, the Government leader appreciated the support, sharing valuable and practical material and the spirit of the people working to prevent the pandemic.

“I appreciate that solidarity, kindness, support and assistance, and at the same time commend the efforts of overseas Vietnamese, workers, students who are living, working and studying in countries that are overcoming disease-related difficulties, and complying with local regulations to protect themselves and the community,” he wrote.

“These actions embody the tradition of solidarity, patriotism, humanity and overcoming difficulties of our people and our people.”

Praising Vietnamese missions abroad for promptly, effectively and effectively implementing the task of protecting citizens and assisting Vietnamese community in foreign countries in the difficult period, the PM requested they continue to make efforts to promote the sense of responsibility, co-operate with the concerned agencies in the host countries, ensure the rights, implement preventive measures and treat diseases for the local Vietnamese community.

At the same time, he urged the missions to continue reiterating Việt Nam's positive spirit and responsibility to the international community, continuing its efforts to co-ordinate actions and share difficulties with all countries to soon win the fight against COVID-19. — VNS
