BÀ RỊA - VŨNG TÀU — The Tân Cảng-Cái Mép International Terminal Co., Ltd (TCIT) in Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province aims to become one of the leading deep-water container terminals in Southeast Asia.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the company’s headquarters on Friday (September 27) to celebrate its 15th anniversary, its chairman, Lieutenant Colonel Trương Tấn Lộc, said: “TCIT constantly invests in improving infrastructure, expanding its market and increasing market share.”
The terminal is continuously expanding, and has increased its throughput capacity to 2.2 million TEUs per year and the size of ships it berths to 160,000 DWT.
Its average throughput increase is 19 per cent a year, he said.
It receives more than 5,000 ships with a schedule of 8-12 per week, and has connected with nearly 30 shipping lines and 50 major ports, he said.
Amid the current global economic uncertainties, the logistics and maritime industries are facing unpredictable developments, and changes in requirements and standards, he said.
“With many opportunities and challenges intertwined, TCIT continues to set the goal of becoming one of the leading deep-water container terminals in Southeast Asia.”
It has been constantly establishing new records in terms of ship handling capacity and productivity in the country, he said.
It ranked seventh in the world in the Container Port Performance Index announced by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence in June, he said.
“This was a proud achievement for Vietnamese seaports when it surpassed large ports such as Japan’s Yokohama, Hong Kong and Singapore.”
It is the only deep-water port in Việt Nam to be recognised as a green port by the APEC Ports Service Network, he added.
