National Chinese Chess wraps up today

ĐÀ NẴNG — Lại Lý Huynh maintained his best performance, creating a wider gap with the runners-up in the seventh round of the National Chinese Chess Team Championship’s standard event that will close today.

Bình Dương Province’s Huynh yesterday was back on course with a win against Nguyễn Hoàng Lâm of HCM City to earn 6.5 points.

His nearest rival Võ Minh Nhất of Bình Phước, however, could only manage a draw against Nguyễn Khánh Ngọc of Hà Nội. Nhất maintains his second position with 5.5 points. The gap with leader Huynh is currently one point.

The third place went to Hà Văn Tiến of Cần Thơ, who defeated senior master Diệp Khai Nguyên of HCM City yesterday.

On the women’s side, HCM City masters dominated the spots in the top 10 ranking after seven rounds.Nguyễn Hoàng Yến continues to be on top with 6.5 points. Trần Huỳnh Thiên Kim and Đàm Thị Thùy Dung came second with only 0.5 point less.

In the mixed doubles, Bình Định stole the top position, while HCM City dropped to No. 2 and Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu were third.

The national championship’s standard Chinese chess event will close today and the rapid and blitz category is on May 28-31 at Tiên Sơn Sports Centre. — VNS
