Tourism plan targets affluent visitors

Update: May, 07/2010 - 09:36

The 2010 tourism stimulus programme includes the Impressive Viet Nam Grand Sale 2010 plan, which is a promotional programme that is targeting tourists who have already visited Viet Nam and overseas Vietnamese.

According to Viet Nam Administration for Tourism(VNAT)'s general director Nguyen Van Tuan, the goal of the programme is to increase the number of tourists, while targeting affluent travellers that are planning on staying in the country for several days. The programme aims to attract 4.2 million foreign tourists and 27-28 million domestic visitors in 2010.

VNAT will join forces with the Ministry of Industry and Trade's Trade Promotion Agency and the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines to implement the programme in August and September in big cities such as Ha Noi, Da Nang and HCM City.

Long holiday packs favoured destinations

Popular tourism destinations in the country such as Nha Trang, Binh Thuan, Ha Long Bay, Phu Quoc and Con Dao islands have reported hosting a large number of travellers during the recent long holiday.

Binh Thuan welcomed approximately 50,000 tourists during the holiday and the Hung Kings Anniversary holiday late last week. Beaches in Nha Trang and Phu Quoc Island were crowded during the holiday weekend.

The majority of the hotels and resorts at these tourist attractions have been fully booked since mid-April. Since last weekend, Ha Long City has been attracting visitors to the Carnival Ha Long 2010, which is a major event that is taking place during the Ha Long Tourism Festival 2010.

Visa exemptions offered

Foreign visitors to Viet Nam in August and September will be able to receive free visas. VNAT said they would also receive value added tax refunds when they buy goods in the country.

In addition, a promotional campaign will reduce their prices by 10-40 per cent on goods during the same period in Ha Noi, Da Nang, and HCM City. Vietnam Airlines will continue to implement its campaign to stimulate domestic tourism. The fares from southern and central provinces to the north will be cut by 30-35 per cent.

Jetstar Pacific schedules more flights

Jetstar Pacific will add one more flight to the Ha Noi-Da Nang and Ha Noi-Nha Trang routes from June 1 to September 5 to meet the rising demand for air travel during the summer. The flights will leave Ha Noi's Noi Bai Airport at 7am and 3.30pm to Da Nang, and will land at 8.45am and 5.15pm, respectively. The flights to Nha Trang will depart from Ha Noi at 7.15am and 10.30am and land at 9.45am and 1pm, respectively.

Vietnamese travel agents awarded

Five Vietnamese travel agencies were awarded Best Supporting Outbound Travel Agent by Malaysian Resorts World Genting under the Genting Group at the Genting International Showroom in Malaysia last week. The winners were Fiditourist, Saigontourist Travel Service, Ben Thanh Tourist, Hanoitourist Travel Company and Ha Noi Red Tours.

In addition to Vietnamese firms, nearly 100 travel agencies from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand also won the award. — VNS
