VNAT plans road shows abroad

The Viet Nam National Administration for Tourism (VNAT) will hold four road shows this year. The first will be in Moscow in May, followed by Washington DC in July during the Viet Nam Culture Week. The third will be in Singapore and Malaysia in August, and the final one in India in September during the launch of Viet Nam-India direct flights.

US parachuters tour Viet Nam

The HCM City-based travel agency Viettravel welcomed 14 American visitors to Viet Nam for a parachuting tour in the central provinces.

The US jumpers will stay in the country for 13 days to visit landscapes and parachute from Langbian Mountain in Da Lat (Lam Dong Province), Ba Na Mount (in Da Nang) and Nha Trang.

This is the first time Viettravel has organised such a tour. If it is a success, the travel agency will organise more tours in the near future.

Sai Gon Cyclo Challenge next week

Forty-six teams representing businesses and organisations are ready to join the 5th cyclo competition in HCM City on March 5. The organising committee of the annual fund-raiser said contestants would face each other in the competition of speed and skills.

Paul Cleven, chairman of the organising committee, said contestants were traning eargerly and competitive spirit was running high.

Trans-Indochina tour debuts

The Sai Gon-Mekong Shareholding Co has recently launched a trans-Indochina tour designed to bring tourists to Viet Nam, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. Tourists will begin their eight-day itinerary in HCM City and travel by road to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap of Cambodia, Bangkok and Pattaya of Thailand and Vientiane and Savanakhet of Laos.

During their stay in Viet Nam, tourists will also visit the ancient imperial city of Hue in the central region. The travel agency has plans to launch a waterway tour from HCM City to Phnom Penh in the coming time.

Cruise ships lured to Da Nang

Fifteen world-famous cruise ships will dock at the port of Tien Sa in Viet Nam’s central hub of Da Nang as part of their trips around Asia in the first 10 months of the year, said the city tourism authority.

Among the ships will be the Orianal with 1,700 passengers, Seven Seas Voyager with 700 passengers and Sapphire Princess with 3,000 passengers. All three ships are scheduled to dock at Da Nang next month. The Seaborne Spirit ship has brought nearly 200 American and European visitors to the port. It was the fifth international cruise ship to the city since early this year.

Central province plans festival

Quang Nam Province has been preparing for the second heritage festival which will take place in the ancient town of Hoi An and My Son tower complex from March 21 to 26.

This year’s event will include cultural activities such as the countryside market, a fashion show, a photo exhibition, a week of films about Hoi An, a showroom of antiques found near Cu Lao Cham Island, and folk games.

HCM City to auction rare whisky

The Canadian Consulate General in HCM City will auction off a very rare 14-year old bottle of Canada’s only single malt whisky donated by Glenora Distillery of Nova Scotia, Canada.The bottle being auctioned is one of only 120 bottles of its kind in the world. This bottle, number 9, sells for more than US$300 in Canada but is almost impossible to find. Each of these very rare bottles is hand signed and hand dipped, creating a unique wax seal. The auction will be held at the Sai Gon Town Club, 29 Le Duan Street on March 3. Proceeds from the auction will go to Thien Phuoc Village which cares for dioxin victims. — VNS
