A few months ago, Nguyễn Thị Phượng, a 50-year-old widow, was desperate to buy new clothes for her two children before the new school year. Due to financial difficulties however, she was unable to buy even the cheapest of items.

She then found out about a stand offering free secondhand clothing set up by Nguyễn Thị Thanh Thảo, a resident in Buôn Mê Thuột City in the Central Highlands province of Đắc Lắk.

Opened just over two months ago, the stand is a goodwill destination for residents like Phương, who was able to find some nice, clean clothing for her kids.

Street vendors, motorcycle-taxi drivers, lottery sellers, and others in need are all welcome to stop by and browse the selection of free clothes.

Thảo, who collects the clothing from donors, says she opened the stand after hearing of the success of free food and clothing stands in Hà Nội and HCM City.

“When we donate something to the poor, we receive smiles in return,” she says. VNS
