Japan triumphs at int’l table tennis tourney in HCM City

Japan took first place in the overall rankings at the 32nd Open Golden Racket International Table Tennis Tournament 2018, which wrapped up in HCM City on July 7.

HCM CITY — Japan took first place in the overall rankings at the 32nd Open Golden Racket International Table Tennis Tournament 2018, which wrapped up in HCM City on July 7.

In the men’s singles, Singaporean player Zhu Yi beat Choi Won-jin from South Korea 4-1 in the final to secure the title. 

Nguyễn Trung Kiên of Hà Nội and Thai player Padasak shared third prize.

Japanese player Miku Izumo defeated defending champion Orawan Paranang from Thailand 4-0 in the women’s singles to claim the title. 

Meanwhile, Li Ching Wan from China’s Hong Kong and Choi Moon-young from South Koroe ranked third.

The Japanese team triumphed in the men’s doubles and Boram Halleluyah team from the RoK earned second place. Thailand and Vicem Hoàng Thạch team of Hải Dương province (Việt Nam) took third prize.

Two teams from Hong Kong claimed the top two prizes in the women’s doubles, while third place went to Thailand and South Korea’s team A.

More than 100 players from China’s Taiwan and Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Việt Nam gathered at the event which began on July 4. They competed in four categories – the men’s and women’s doubles, and men’s and women’s singles. — VNS
