VN players reach int’l badminton tourney semis

HÀ NỘI — Four Vietnamese players advanced to the next round of the Nepal International Series badminton tournament in Kathmandu yesterday.

Women’s singles category No 1 seed Nguyễn Thùy Linh beat Nepalese player Sichhya Shrestha 21-6, 21-12 in the quarter-final match.

Linh will next face No 3 Aghaei Hajiagha Soraya of Iran.

Her teammate Trần Thị Phương Thúy won 21-8, 21-7 over Nepal’s Megha Chand. Her next opponent is Indonesian Devi Yunita Indah Saru.

In the men’s singles, Lê Đức Phát, No 7 seed, beat Tushar Krishna Roy from Bangladesh 21-10, 21-11 while his No 6 teammate Phạm Cao Cường trounced Mohammad Salman Khan of Bangladesh 21-8, 21-5.

Phát will next meet No 5 Siddharath Thakur while Cường will play No 2 Abhishek Yelegar. Thakur and Yelegar are from India.

Only pair Đặng Quang Huy and Nguyễn Đức Giang were stopped after losing 11-21, 7-21 to No 2 duo Arjun Madathil Ramachandran and Ramchandran Shlok of India. — VNS
