HÀ NỘI — Gaston Merlo is favoured to win the title of "best scorer" this season after the 24th round match of the V.League last weekend.

SHB Đà Nẵng’s Argentinean striker scored a double against Sài Gòn FC during their match on their home turf, Chi Lăng Stadium. SHB Đà Nẵng won 3-1 and continued their hopes of winning the tournament title again.

Merlo has grabbed 20 goals, five more than runner-up Hoàng Vũ Samson of Hà Nội T&T, who did not play on Sunday because of illness and whose ability to come back soon is unclear.

There are two rounds left before the V.League ends.

SHB Đà Nẵng will play former champion Hoàng Anh Gia Lai on September 11 in Chi Lăng.

Merlo won the best scorer title in 2009, 2010 and 2011. — VNS
