HA NOI (VNS) — Abass Cheikh Dieng won the 2015 Fair Play Award that was presented on February 24 in HCM City.

Dieng won 511 points to claim the award in the fourth year of the event. The national U23 team came second, followed by Hai Phong football fans.

The Senegalese striker, wearing Becamex Binh Duong's jersey, had suffered a broken leg while vying for the ball with Ha Noi T&T midfielder Duong Thanh Hao in the National Cup final last season.

He made an impressive gesture, forgiving and consoling Hao when he came to apologise in the hospital.

Dieng said it was not Hao's fault and that it was just an accident.

Dieng could not take part in the event as he returned to his home town for treatment, but he sent a video clip to the organisers. He said he was happy with the love people gave him. He said it was an incentive in his career and that he would try to return to football and Viet Nam as soon as possible. — VNS
