HA NOI – Ha Noi triumphed in the gymnastics event, winning seven gold, six silver and five bronze medals at the ongoing National Games in the northern province of Nam Dinh yesterday.
Hai Phong came second with four gold, two silver and one bronze. All four gold medals were won by world bronze medallist Phan Thi Ha Thanh. HCM City were in third place with two gold, five silver and four bronze.
Ha Noi also dominated in the pencak silat event, which ended yesterday in the northern port city of Hai Phong. They overcame strong rivals from Thanh Hoa, the Ministry of Public Security and HCM City to take lead with 10 gold and two bronze. Thanh Hoa and Vinh Phuc were the runners-up.
On the third day of the rowing event, Ha Noi were ahead with three gold and one bronze. They finished first in the lightweight men's double sculls (LM2X), lightweight men's single sculls (LM1X) and men's quadruple sculls (M4X) final.
On the third day of the fencing event, the players continued to compete in the women's singles' foil and men's singles sabre category.
Twenty-one players from five teams participated in the women's singles' foil. Hanoian Nguyen Thi Tuoi beat her teammate Do Thi Anh to seize the gold medal. In the men's side, Bac Ninh's Bui Van Tai defeated Hanoian Vu Thanh An to get the gold.
However, in the finswimming event which ended yesterday, HCM City beat Ha Noi to take the lead with 10 gold, seven silver and two bronze. – VNS
