HA NOI (VNS) — Vietnamese top chess player Le Quang Liem tied with Canadian Razvan Preotu in the third round of the ongoing Spice Cup Open 2014 in Missouri in the United States.

Earlier, the 2013 blitz world champion also drew with Ireland's Gudmundur Kjartansson in the second round and beat America's Raymond Kaufman after just 31 moves in their first-round clash.

The two-time Aeroflot Open champion triumphed in the same event in 2011 but failed to defend it with a second-place finish in 2012. He ranked third at last year's event.

Competition at the tourney is in the format of a nine-round Swiss System. The winner will receive US$5,000, while the first and second runner-up will receive $2,500 and $1,500. — VNS
