HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam will participate in the International Futsal Grand Prix to be held in the city of Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, from November 11 to 16.
The competition will feature five other teams, including host Brazil, the defending champion, who are in Group A with Viet Nam and Colombia. Group B gathers Iran, Guatemala and Costa Rica.
They will compete for the championship of the ninth edition, with the top two advancing to the semi-finals. All games will be played at the Gymnasium Moises Adib Dib.
The tournament kicks off on November 12, with Viet Nam facing Brazil. In their last match in HCM City last November, Viet Nam won, 3-2.
According to the Viet Nam Football Federation, the national team will begin training for the tournament on October 26.
The Brazilian Futsal Confederation has organised the FIFA-recognised Grand Prix, one of the world's major tournaments for the sport, every year since 2005. Brazil has won seven of the eight editions held so far, losing only once to Spain in 2010.
The tournament took place in the city of Maringa last year, when Brazil won their seventh title by beating Russia with penalty shootouts. — VNS
