Viet Nam defeated world champions Brazil 3-2 in the last match of the HCM City International Futsal Tournament yesterday at Phu Tho Gymnasium.
The hosts were the only team to overcome the world No 1 side in the four-team competition. Viet Nam, who lost their two previous games to Japan and Thailand, pocketed a bronze medal following their unlikely triumph. Despite the defeat, Brazil claimed the championship – with six points after three matches – and a $5,000 bonus. Japan came a close second, also with six points, but a worse goal difference. The two runners-up took home $3,000 and $1,000 respectively.
Organisers also awarded cash prizes for best player, best scorer and best goalie. — VNS Photo Quang Thang
