Quynh Trang secured a final berth at the Asian Women’s Open Tournament after
beating Wong Ka Man from Hong Kong 22-9 in the semi-final on Thursday.
Quynh raises hope for Viet
Nam in the 54kg category as the first Vietnamese woman boxer to seal a final
berth at the event.
Nguyen Van An also took a
final berth in the 48kg class in the Asian Cadet Boxing Championships here on
Vietnamese boxers have
bagged seven bronze medals at the tournaments including Nguyen Thi Vui in 54kg,
Dinh Thi Phuong Thanh in 60kg, Hoang Thi Van in 66kg and Hoang Diep in 63kg
classes for the women’s event.
Meanwhile, Van Quyet,
Trung Hai and Thanh Nhan also took out bronze medals in the Asian Cadet Boxing
Championships after losing in the semi-finals.
It’s the second year in
a row, Viet Nam has hosted the Asian Cadet Boxing Championships and Women’s
Open Tournament in the capital.
The tournament, which has
drawn 152 boxers from countries and territories from India, Mongolia, Sri Lanka,
Singapore, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Thailand, China’s
Guangxi, Hong Kong and Viet Nam competing in the 13 weight categories of boys
age 15-17 and the women’s division, will close tomorrow.
In previous tournaments in
Ha Noi, Viet Nam team took only one gold medal when Nguyen Minh Hieu stunned Han
Shang-ho from South Korea in the men’s 57kg category and helped Viet Nam rank
fourth with one gold and six bronze medals. — VNS
