Thanh Hoa women wrestlers dominate nationals
THAI NGUYEN — Ha Noi and
Thanh Hoa both took two gold medals in the women’s freestyle events of the
National Wrestling Championship on Wednesday in Thai Nguyen Province.
In the 51kg pool final,
Hanoian Nguyen Thi Thu met no difficulty in beating Dao Thi Hien from Bac Ninh
10-1, and took the first gold for the capital team. Thu’s performance might be
enough to call her back to the national team.
In the 63kg category,
Southeast Asian Games champion Nguyen Thi Lan Anh clinched the second gold for
Ha Noi after beating host Nguyen Thi Quynh Mai 11-1.
Thanh Hoa dominated the
two heaviest categories of 67kg and 72kg, with wrestlers Luong Thi Quyen and
Nguyen Thi Thuy Van each taking golds.
In the 55kg category clash
between national team members, wrestler La Thi Them of Hai Phong defeated Duong
Thi Duyen from Bac Ninh. In the final match, both players traded the advantage,
but after one slip up, Duyen was pinned and lost a gold.
Despite many efforts, the
host Thai Nguyen earned only one gold, which was in the 59kg pool after Nguyen
Thi Hang beat Doan Thi Thuy of Hai Phong.
The Ha Tay delegation also
earned one gold after national team member Duong Thi Thuy beat Nguyen Thi Ve
from Bac Ninh in 38 seconds in the 48kg category.
Host Thai Nguyen took one
gold, two silver and four bronze medals, while Ha Tay and Hai Phong each
clinched one gold, one silver and one bronze.
On Tuesday, the Army team
won the most Greco-Roman medals, with five golds, two silvers and two bronzes.
Ha Noi took one gold and three silvers, and Ha Tay earned one gold, one silver
and three bronzes.
