Disabled swimmers earn five more golds at ASEAN Para Games

Vietnamese swimmers earned five more gold medals at the ongoing ASEAN Para Games 2022 in Indonesia on Tuesday.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese swimmers earned five gold medals at the ASEAN Para Games (APG) 2022 in Indonesia on Tuesday.

Danh Hòa won two golds in the men’s 200m freestyle S4 with a time of 4:11.12 and 50m breast-stroke SB3 after clocking a time of 56.81secs.

Meanwhile, Đỗ Thanh Hải also surpassed all competitors in the men’s 50m breast-stroke race in the SB5 category to reach the finish line after 42.40secs.

In the men’s 100m backstroke S7 category, Nguyễn Hoàng Nhã took the gold medal with a time of 1:19.01, while Võ Huỳnh Anh Khoa triumphed in the men’s 100m backstroke S8 with a time of 1:16.08.

It was Khoa’s second gold at the regional biggest sports event after his first gold earned on Monday in the men’s 400m freestyle S8 event.

The Vietnamese swimming team have won 11 golds, four silvers and five bronzes, approaching the target of 13 gold medals set for the tournament.

Notably, Lê Thị Dung set a new Games record and took the gold medal with a time of 5:59.87, breaking the old record of 7:24.10.

Việt Nam is now temporarily in third place on the medal tally with 15 golds, 15 silvers and seven bronzes. Indonesia tops the rankings with 28 golds, 20 silvers and 11 bronzes, while Thailand is second with 17 golds, 20 silvers and 10 bronzes. VNS
