HA NOI – Gastric cancer has become the third most frequent cancer (after liver and lung cancer) in Viet Nam with 15,000 newly diagnosed cases and 11,000 causalities yearly, according to the National Cancer Hospital Internal Department Director Nguyen Tuyet Mai.
Speaking at a workshop on gastric cancer yesterday, the doctor recommended that people attend hospitals for health examinations when experiencing symptoms such as indigestion, heartburn and fatigue.
Mai added that 80 per cent of gastric cancer cases were discovered too late for surgery and chemotherapy.
Gastric cancer is caused by a Helicobacter Pylori bacterium infection, eating salty food, being obese, smoking and drinking alcohol or even via heredity factors.
