Traffic accidents claim 6,700 lives this year

A total of 14,510 traffic accidents happened across Việt Nam this year as of December 23, killing 6,700 people and injuring 10,804 others, the National Traffic Safety Committee has revealed.

HÀ NỘI — A total of 14,510 traffic accidents happened across Việt Nam this year as of December 23, killing 6,700 people and injuring 10,804 others, the National Traffic Safety Committee has revealed.

The figures represented year-on-year decreases of 17.6 per cent in the number of cases, 12.12 per cent in the number of fatalities and 20.7 per cent in the number of injuries.

In the year, 8,177 road accidents killed 6,575 people and injured 4,354 others. Meanwhile, 91 railway accidents left 71 dead and 23 injured. Sixty-two accidents on waterways claimed the lives of 44 people and injured seven, while 10 people were killed in 14 maritime accidents.

In December alone, 1,525 traffic accidents claimed 652 lives and injured 1,152 others, down 13.45 per cent, 0.61 per cent and 22.27 per cent year-on-year, respectively. — VNS
