HCM CITY – Businesses operating in 23/9 Park in HCM City’s District 1 began moving out of the park on June 26.

The chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Nguyễn Thành Phong, directed the departments of Planning and Architecture and Construction to work with agencies to remove the shops and parking lots.

Phong also asked the Construction department to work with the departments of Natural Resources and Environment as well as Culture and Sport to remove Sen Hồng Theatre.

Cafes, shops, and people playing music at loud volume have disturbed the peaceful atmosphere of the park.

In a related matter, several city departments and agencies have proposed removing the Bến Thành bus terminal from its current location at 1 Phạm Ngũ Lão Street in District 1

The HCM City Centre for Land Fund Development is responsible for removing an underground shopping centre before June 30.

The 23/9 Park is a popular park for relaxation and sports such as badminton, jogging, football and dancing. Festivals and celebrations are also organised in the park. — VNS
