Major streets in downtown capital closed for late President’s funeral

HÀ NỘI — Some 20 major streets in downtown Hà Nội will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday for the State funeral of the late President Trần Đại Quang.

All vehicles will be banned on streets around the National Funeral Home at No 5 on Trần Thánh Tông Street on these two days.

They will also be banned on the streets of Tăng Bạt Hổ, Nguyễn Công Trứ, Yersin, Trần Thánh Tông, Nguyễn Huy Tự, Lê Quý Đôn, Nguyễn Cao, Hàn Thuyên, Hàng Chuối and Phạm Đình Hổ on Wednesday.

From 6am to 10pm on Wednesday and from 6am to 12pm on Thursday, trucks with a capacity from 500kg and coaches with more than 25 seats will be restricted on the streets of Lý Thường Kiệt, Trần Hưng Đạo, Hai Bà Trưng, Lê Thánh Tông, Lò Đúc, Nguyễn Công Trứ, Trần Khánh Dư, Trần Quang Khải, Phố Huế, Lê Duẩn, Ngô Thì Nhậm, Đại Cồ Việt, Trần Khát Chân, Bà Triệu and Hàng Bài.

From 6am to 12pm on Thursday, trucks and buses with more than 25 seats will not be allowed to enter a number of streets in downtown area, including Trần Thánh Tông, Lê Thánh Tông, Tràng Tiền, Hàng Khay, Tràng Thi, Điện Biên Phủ, Hoàng Diệu, Hoàng Văn Thụ, Độc Lập, Chu Văn An and Trần Phú.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Monday issued an official order on ceasing all entertainment activities during the two-day State funeral.

It also requested all State-owned agencies and organisations to fly national flags at half-mast throughout these days.

Delegations visiting the National Funeral Home to bid farewell to the late President are requested not to bring wreaths. Black armbands are allowed.

The late President Trần Đại Quang passed away at the 108 Military Hospital on September 21 morning due to serious illness. He was 62. — VNS
