HÀ NỘI  The chairman of Hà Nội People’s Committee has asked the municipal Department of Home Affairs to abort a plan of recruiting 1,000 public servants.

According to the department’s deputy director, Nguyễn Thị Liễu, the plan was to recruit public servants for commune- and ward-level administrative units replacing the ones who were retired or changed their jobs.

“The plan was previously submitted to the city’s commitee for approval”, said Liễu.

However, Chairman Nguyễn Đức Chung turn down the proposal and said “at present, work at the commune-level administrative units is considerably low due to the application of online services, including paying pension via post. So recruting another 1,000 public servants is not necessary”.

Chung asked the department to check the number of staff of 548 wards and communes and report to the municipal committee about the demand for employment.

“In case there is work, there must be open and fair competitive examinations,” said Chung.

In March, Hà Nội will introduce a software to rate people’s satisfaction in all communal- and ward-level administrative units.

This is a way to evaluate the effectiveness of public servants.

In the committee meeting, the chairman also asked the department to make inspections to the departments of Planning and Investment, Planning and Architecture and Education and Training to check into complaints that there had been delay in approving documents submitted by businesses. — VNS
