HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam welcomed 19,062 babies during the Tết (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) holidays, reported the Vietnam News Agency. 

The information was released by Lương Ngọc Khuê, head of the Department of Medical Examination Management under the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, based on data collected from 1,300 hospitals and 63 provincial health departments across the country.

According to the data, from February 14 to 20, 14,079 surgeries were performed, which includes 405 cases of traumatic brain injury, while 103,545 patients were discharged from hospitals.

Till 7am on Tuesday, 37,376 emergencies due to road accidents were recorded. This year, 168 people were killed in road accidents compared to 175 deaths last Tết.

Petard explosions caused 197 accidents, especially on the last and first day of the Lunar New Year (Febuary 15 and 16), rising 28.4 per cent compared to 2017. — VNS
