HCM CITY – HCM City on Friday (Oct 20) celebrated the 87th anniversary of the Việt Nam Women’s Union and national Women’s Day.
The event, organised by the HCM City Women’s Union, was attended by the chairwoman of the city People’s Council Nguyễn Thị Quyết Tâm; deputy secretary of the city Party Committee, Võ Thị Dung; head of the Department of Publicity and Education of the city Party Committee Thân Thị Thư; deputy chairwoman of the city People’s Council Trương Thị Ánh; and, president of the city Women’s Union Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Bích, among other officials.
Bích said the city Women’s Union had been organising activities and programmes for women with emphasis on building a happy family, educating women working in factories, and creating funds for potential students.
The Nguyễn Thị Định Award, for example, was created by the union in 2008 to honor women with great societal contributions.
This year, five groups and two individuals received awards. They are: the Women’s Union in District 5, Phụ Nữ (Women) Newspaper, HCM City Charity Women’s Association, HCM City Police Women’s Association, Women’s Union in Bình Thạnh District, Nguyễn Thị Lan, the head of the women’s team in District 6’s Ward 9; and Trần Thị Cúc, deputy chairwoman of the Women’s Union in Cần Giờ District’s Tam Thôn Hiệp Commune.
The city Women’s Union has encouraged more women to collaborate and achieve goals set by the city and the government. – VNS
