HAVANA — A ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment (MINCEX) on Monday to mark the delivery of 5,000 tones of Vietnamese rice to Cuba.

The gift was announced by President Trần Đại Quang during his visit to Cuba in November 2016.

Present at the ceremony were Deputy Director General of the Vietnamese General Department of State Reserves Lê Văn Thời, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Nguyễn Trung Thành, Director General of the Cuba Food Export-Import Corporation (Allimport) Alejandro Mustelier Zamora, and other senior officials.

Ambassador Thời recalled the material and spiritual assistance that the Cuban people had given to Vietnamese people in the past, and emphasised the support of the Vietnamese Party, State and people for the Cuban people’s revolutionary cause.
Alejandro Mustelier Zamora thanked Viet Nam for the gift, saying it was a token of friendship between the two Parties, States and peoples.
He highlighted the gift’s significance for people in Cuba’s eastern provinces, who had to suffer a major storm last year. — VNS
