HÀ NỘI – Doctors at Hà Nội City’s E Hospital yesterday successfully removed a 7kg tumor from a man’s chest, director Lê Ngọc Thành said.

According to Thành, this was a special tumor with a very large diameter. The large tumor had to be removed as it might have caused pressure on the heart and lungs of the patient, causing trouble in breathing and bringing on chest pain.

The 18-year-old patient’s family in the central Nghệ An province said the patient developed a prolonged cough one month ago and had difficulties breathing due to chest pain. He also had to sit on a chair to sleep.

After undergoing several consultations, doctors decided to remove the tumor.

This was a complex surgery because the tumor was attached to the pericardium and large blood vessel in the chest, Thành said.

Doctors noted that the patient was at risk, as he might have suffered bleeding during the surgery due to the risk of breaking a large blood vessel.

However, the surgery was completed successfully in three hours and the patient, after recovering, would return home within days, he said. – VNS
