QUANG NGAI (VNS) — A fishing boat with 10 fishermen on board has been rescued after its engine broke down near Hoang Sa (Paracel Islands), the Viet Nam Coast Guard reported.

The coast guard was trying to tow the boat to safety areas in Binh Dinh central province's Quy Nhon City, as of Tuesday afternoon.

Marine officials said they received a call for help from fishing boat QNg 97299 on Sunday evening. At 1am on Monday, rescue ship CSB 9002 began traveling to the area where the boat was adrift. At 5pm on Monday, the rescue ship approached the stranded boat at Ly Son Island sea area in central Quang Ngai Province.

The fishing boat, captained by Le Van Tan, 32, a resident of Quang Ngai Province, broke down during bad weather, which caused fierce seas and strong winds.

Officials said the fishermen on board were in low spirits. — VNS
