Hai Van Tunnel to remain open before Tet

THUA THIEN HUE (VNS) — The Hai Van Tunnel will remain open 24 hours per day before and after Tet 2016, the Lunar New Year, according to the tunnel management board.

The board has said the tunnel will be open 24 hours per day before the Lunar New Year, from January 24 through February 7, and afterwards from February 12 until 22.

During the Lunar New Year, from February 8 to 11, the tunnel will be closed for cleaning from 3am to 4am.

The 6.3-km-long Hai Van Tunnel, the longest tunnel in Southeast Asia, is located on National Highway 1 between Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang City in the center of Viet Nam.

The tunnel officially opened for traffic on June 5, 2005.

It is normally closed one hour per day for cleaning. — VNS
