HA NOI (VNS) — The construction of the Chon Thanh–Duc Hoa road, which was suspended in 2011 over funds shortage, will be resumed next year under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract.

The 72.5km road is part of the 3,183km HCM Highway, running from Lang Son in the upper north to Ca Mau on the southern cape.

According to the HCM Highway Project Management Unit, the road construction needs funding of about VND2.05 trillion (US$91 million). The management unit has submitted the road investment proposal to the transport minister. If approved, the construction will be restarted next year and the road is expected to be ready in 2018.

The road is expected to meet the need for increased transport demand and ensure national defence in the southern provinces of Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh and Long An. When it connects with National Highway 14, the road will also link the Mekong Delta provinces with the south-western and Central Highland provinces.

The private investor is expected to get its return on investment after 22 years and seven months through toll collection at two toll stations installed in Tay Ninh and Long An provinces. — VNS
