DA NANG (VNS) — Doctors at the cancer hospital in the central Da Nang Province have removed a 4.3kg tumour from the abdomen of a 59-year old woman.

The woman, a resident of the central Quang Ngai Province, had a large tumour in her abdomen. After the local hospital suspected it to be cancerous, she was transferred to Da Nang Cancer Hospital.

The patient had found that her abdomen was growing larger a month ago, but ignored the symptoms. It was not till her abdomen grew to the size of a four-month pregnant woman's abdomen that she went to the hospital for a check-up.

After undergoing several tests, the Da Nang Cancer Hospital said the woman had a large uterine fibroid and should undergo a surgical procedure immediately.

During a two-and-a-half-hour long operation, doctors cut both the woman's uterus and ovaries to remove a 4.3kg tumour.

The woman has recovered and was discharged from hospital after more than one week of treatment. — VNS
