HCM CITY (VNS) — Belgium has pledged to increase assistance projects for Viet Nam and HCM City, particularly in healthcare, human resources training and waste treatment.

President of the Belgian Senate Christine Defraigne, who is on a visit to Viet Nam for the first time, made the remark at a meeting with Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Le Hoang Quan in the city yesterday.

She said the relationship between the two countries was thriving with a growing number of investment co-operation projects, significantly contributing to the development of the respective societies.

To this end, she hoped Belgium's friendship and collaboration with Viet Nam and HCM City would continue across sectors.

For his part, Chairman Quan said the rapport between Viet Nam and Belgium had grown vigorously since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations in 1973.

Particularly, HCM City and Belgian localities have supported each other in wide-ranging domains such as healthcare, education-training, and waste treatment, he said.

The West European country has effectively supported HCM City in carrying out the family-doctor model and the Soai Rap dredging project, Quan said.

He said Belgium could rest assured that HCM City would spare no effort to step up the friendship and collaboration between the two countries. — VNS
