High tide in Can Tho to peak today

CAN THO (VNS) — High tide is forecast to reach its peak of up to 2 metres today, causing heavily flooding to Can Tho City.

According to the Southern Hydro-Meteorological Station, many areas in the inner city will be under 20 and 40 centimetres of water when the high tide reaches its peak at 5pm.

Tran Van Hoai, Nguyen Van Linh, 3/2, and Mau Than, in addition to Tran Hung Dao, will be the most severe flood-prone streets.  

The flooding will continue in the next two days at 6.30am, and then at 5pm, it said.

Vo Thi Hong Aùnh, vice chairwoman of the city's People's Committee said the flooding caused by the high tide would occur at rush hour.

She asked the authorities to issue warnings of the flood-prone areas and mobilise the traffic police to assure traffic flow. — VNS
