QUANG TRI — The central Quang Tri Province People's Committee has approved a project for constructing the VND1.4-trillion (US$65.7 million) Huong Linh 2 wind power plant in Huong Hoa District.
This will be Viet Nam's fifth wind power plant, after the three plants in the central Binh Thuan Province and another in the Mekong Delta Bac Lieu Province.
The plant in Quang Tri Province will have 15 wind turbines with a capacity of producing 2MW each on an area of about 12ha.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
Upon its completion, the project will address electricity shortages, promote local economic development, and create jobs for local workers.
Late last month, the Binh Thuan Wind Power Joint Stock Company held a groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of its Phu Lac wind power plant in Tuy Phong District, in the south-central Binh Thuan Province.
The Phu Lac plant covers a total area of 400ha and has an investment of VND1 trillion ($46.5 million) for building 12 wind turbines, capable of producing 24MW. The first phase is expected to become operational in September 2016. — VNS
