HA NOI (VNS) — Candle lighting ceremonies to pay respect to fallen Vietnamese soldiers will be held nationwide on July 27, the 68th annual Day for Invalids and Martyrs.

The HCM Communist Youth Union will join hands with Quang Tri and Kien Giang provinces to organise the event that will begin at 7.30pm and end at 9pm.

Besides, Quang Tri and Kien Giang provinces will hold ceremonies on Monday to glorify the martyrs, in which flowers will be laid and candles lit at the National Martyrs Highway No. 9 and the Security Historical Relics Complex Zone 9, respectively. The latter was inaugurated in U Minh Thuong District on Friday.

Candle lighting ceremonies to express gratitude to the martyrs will take place simultaneously across the country on Monday night.

The Youth Union has instructed all its branches in localities with monuments or cemeteries of the martyrs to work with the relevant agencies to tend to and repair the memorials to the fallen soldiers.

The same day, a special activity titled "Youths pay respect to martyrs for their merit" will be organised to tell people about the significance of the Day and the history behind it and to highlight the responsibilities of the younger generations towards those of earlier generations who sacrificed their life for national liberation and unity.

To mark the day, youth unions in the Quang Tri and Kien Giang provinces will present gifts and houses and provide free health checks and medicines to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and those in the provinces who made significant contributions to the national revolutionary cause. — VNS
